How to Get Around in Brooklyn
Limited subway service will begin tomorrow before rush hour, says the MTA, with shuttle buses between Brooklyn and Manhattan, and no subway service below 34th St in Manhattan because of a lack of power. The MTA has just released a modified subway map here. Here’s what we’re looking at in our area:
• No 2 or 3 trains in Brooklyn.
• 4 trains will make all local stops between Borough Hall and New Lots Avenue.
• 5 trains will operate express in Brooklyn between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Flatbush Avenue.
• B service is suspended.
• D trains operate in Brooklyn between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Bay Parkway, making express stops between Pacific Street and 36th Street.
• F trains make all local stops in Brooklyn between Jay Street-MetroTech and Avenue X.
• G trains are suspended.
• N trains operate between Ditmars Blvd. (Queens) and 34th Street-Herald Square making all local stops.
• Q trains are suspended.
• R trains operate in Brooklyn between Jay Street-MetroTech and 95th Street making all local stops.

You can catch shuttle buses to Manhattan at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center and Jay Street-MetroTech that will go to 57th Street-Lexington Avenue via the Manhattan Bridge.
Buses will continue to operate, but it sounds like traveling today was nightmarish. Commutes into the city took hours longer than normal and many mass transit riders were jealous of the the suddenly much more numerous bikers zooming past them.
If you’re looking to take a car, be aware that gas stations have been crowded. “Gas stations are being sought out all over the tri-state area from many people,” wrote Eric Rodriguez of the 70th Precinct.”We understand the need to get around, however some consumers are double and triple parking causing back ups. Please try to not drive if you do not have to and please understand we need to have traffic flow to get our communities back to normal sooner.”
Cars coming into Manhattan over the East River must have three people from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Thursday and Friday, reports ABC 7 news, except on the George Washington Bridge. If you need to carpool, consider reaching out to neighbors online in our comment section, Facebook, Twitter and local email lists.
Cabs can pick up multiple passengers and livery cars are now allowed to take street hails.
No matter how you decide to travel (or if you do), allow yourself plenty of extra time and patience.Photo by jduleba30
