Not satisfied with middle school options in the neighborhood? No worries, the Department of Education plans to to open six new middle school programs in Brooklyn for the 2015-2016 school year – including several exciting dual language programs.

The School for International Studies is getting a French language program, Isaac Bildersee I.S. 68 will get a Hatian Creole program, a Hebrew language program is coming to David A. Boody I.S. 228, and a new Mandarin program will be available at Joseph B. Cavallaro I.S. 281.

Though the regular middle school application deadline has passed, kids can still apply to new schools or programs on a pre-filled New Middle Schools Application, which will be distributed in elementary schools next week. Kids should also receive directory pages providing information about each new or expanding school at that time.

Here is the complete list of new programs in Brooklyn:

How to Apply
To apply to a new middle school or program, complete and return the New Middle Schools Application to your child’s elementary school by March 4, 2015.

New Schools Application vs. Main Round Application
The New Middle Schools Application is separate from the main round applications completed in November. If a child participates in the new schools application process, he or she will receive any new school offers in May in the same letter with his or her offer from the original application. Applicants will be able to choose between the new schools offer and the main round offer.
