Do you ever find yourself comparing our area to the half-island nation of East Timor? Well there is one similarity, according to The New York World: East Timor’s homicide rate in 2008 (6.9 homicides per 100,000 people) was similar to the 70th Precinct’s homicide rate in 2012 (6.85 homicides per 100,000 people).

There were 11 homicides in our precinct in 2012.

East Timor, which is located in Southeast Asia, had an estimated population of 1,066,582 in 2010; in the same year, our Community District, which shares the same borders as our precinct, had an estimated population of 160,664.
