How Sweet It Is: Leske’s Opens South Slope Location

That’s right, friends and neighbors, Leske’s Bakery (588 5th Ave) is officially open, and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has declared today Calorie Free Day in celebration of the historic bakery’s expansion.

Of course, we had to try it out, so here’s a sneak peek at four of our favorites:

whoopie pie

Ahhhh, the whoopie pie. You’ve got a beautifully moist chocolate cake, with a sweet (but not too sweet) cream center.

Twinkee

The Twinkie. Soooooooo much tastier than the Hostess variety. Loved the powdered sugar on the outside.

hostess cupcake

If you’re a chocoholic, then definitely grab a Hostess inspired cupcake. They’re VERY rich, and would satisfy anyone’s midday chocolate craving.

cheese danish

It’s going to be dangerous having cheese danish like this so close to our apartment. The pastry itself is light, buttery and flakey, and the glaze covering the top has a very nice hint of citrus. It was a brilliant, and I would imagine soon-to-be frequent, coffee companion.

What are you waiting for, South Slope? Stop by, welcome Leske’s to the neighborhood, and grab a treat. The first 250 customers that visit today will receive a free black and white cookie!
