How Likely Are You to Get Murdered in South Slope?

78th Police Car

Odds are, you’re pretty safe.

A story by New York Magazine noted today that, despite 2012 rocking the lowest number of murders in NYC since the NYPD began keeping track back in 1963, Brooklyn held the unfortunate title of “murderiest borough,” with 36% of the city’s homicides taking place here.

Probably not one of the titles we’ll be displaying on our Welcome to Brooklyn signs, huh?

How did our police precincts fare, though? In the 78th, only one murder took place in 2012, while over in the 72nd precinct, we had two.

Long story short, you’re more likely to get mugged for your iPhone 5 than become the city’s next murder victim.
