How Do You Feel About Mosquito Spraying?

Even if it doesn’t feel like it today, summer is fast approaching–which means bugs are, too. The question of spraying for mosquitoes in Beverley Square West has been raised, since nearby areas like Park Slope and Prospect Park itself have been sprayed for years, while our neighborhood is not always included (it was not sprayed last year).

On the one hand, it would be nice to enjoy our yards and garden areas at local hangouts without getting eaten alive–on the other, chemicals used in the spraying process might not be ideal for all the local growers of organic veggies, or for wildlife like birds and bats.

The Beverley Square West Association has not yet voted on the spraying, but will be discussing it at their next monthly meeting, which residents of that neighborhood are encouraged to attend. So, would you prefer to have the neighborhood sprayed to keep mosquitoes out this season, do you stand by a proven natural pest deterrent, or have you not noticed a bug problem at all?
