Horrific Car Crash Sends Father and Son Flying

CROWN HEIGHTS —  A car crash sent two neighbors to the hospital Thursday morning in Crown Heights, police said.

A 47-year-old father and his and 11-year old son were crossing Brooklyn Avenue at Crown Street, when two vehicles struck each other and then propelled into the two pedestrians landing them into the front yard of 420 Crown St.  See the video below:

Police said the first vehicle, a 2017 Mercedes Benz, was traveling westbound on Crown St. while a second car, a 2018 Mercedes Benz, was traveling southbound on Brooklyn Ave. when they collided.  The victims were rushed to Methodist Hospital with minor injuries. There is an ongoing investigation.

There is a traffic light at the corner at Crown St. and Brooklyn Ave., but it is common for cars to drive at high speed to try to make the light sequence. This particular corner has had 18 car crashes within the past 10 years, including one involving a cyclist.

While the police would not confirm who had the right of way, you can see the people waiting to cross, as cars are passing, then a car stops, they advance, look both ways, as a car coming down Brooklyn Avenue bypasses the car that had stopped at the intersection, and collides with a car that is starting to drive on Crown Street.
