Holiday Tree & Menorah Lighting Ceremonies
All events are free and open to the public, and we will update as more events and details are announced. Mark your calendars and bring the kids! (Dyker Heights lights go up the weekend after Thanksgiving.)
Christmas, as usual, falls on December 25th. Kwanzaa follows Christmas and takes place December 26 through January 1. Hannukah this year starts on Tuesday, December 12th at sundown and continues for 8 days.
- SUNSET PARK BID & OLPH Basilica Annual Tree Lighting – Thursday, November 30, 3pm – 6pm outside Basilica (5th Avenue @ 59th Street)
Santa shows up early and sits in front of the tree, and kids are welcome to take photos with him. As the sun begins to set, children from Sunset Park’s schools and organizations ring in the season with songs on the stage.
- Shore Road and 90th Street at the Gazebo – Thursday, November 30th, starting at 6:30 p.m. Co-Sponsored by the Shore Road Parks Conservancy and Senator Marty Golden. There will be Christmas Carols, a special visit from Santa Claus and hot chocolate for all. They will be also collecting Toys for Tots.
- Lady Moody Square, Van Sicklen Street and Avenue U – Friday, December 1st, starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be hot chocolate and they will be gathering Toys for Tots
- ATLANTIC AVENUE ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY & PARTY – Friday, December 1, 6pm-8pm, St. Cyril Church (401 Atlantic @ Bond)
- 5 to 6 PM: Caroling Along Avenue with Brooklyn High School of the Arts
- 6PM: Atlantic Avenue Tree Lighting Ceremony – Meet Santa! Officiated by Council Member Stephen Levin
- 6:15 to 7:30 PM: Holiday Tree Lighting Party
- Fort Hamilton Army Base – December 1, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Fort Hamilton Tree Lighting Spectacular & Holiday Market. You must register latest the day before and have a picture ID. Details at link above.
- FORT GREENE – December 3rd, 4:30-6pm, Fort Greene Park entrance (corner of Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park)
The 4th annual tree lighting in Fort Greene Park – there will be live music, free hot cocoa and cookies from Myrtle Avenue restaurants, and Santa Claus! We’ll also be collecting toys for local toy drives.
- DUMBO HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING Ceremony on Monday, December 4th from 5-7pm in the Pearl Street Triangle
Carols, Calypso and Cocoa! Join us to ignite some holiday cheer! The DUMBO Improvement District is thrilled to sponsor the 12th Annual DUMBO Holiday Tree Lighting:
- TREE LIGHTING. SANTA CLAUS. All the way from New Jersey the North Pole, with a photo booth from our friends at Brooklyn Central.
- CALYPSO MUSIC. From Brooklyn-based steel drum band Jah Pan.
- CAROLS. Performances by the PS307 and Dock Street Middle School choirs.
- THE NUTCRACKER. Excerpts from DUMBO’s Gelsey Kirkland Dance Academy.
- HOT COCOA. Donated by Jacques Torres, DUMBO’s own Mr. Chocolate.
- SWEET TREATS. Donated by our Front Street Starbucks.
- PROJECTIONS ON THE MANHATTAN BRIDGE. Animated videos reinvent “yule logs” for the digital age.
- TOY DRIVE. Bring an unwrapped toy for a child ages 0 to 14 for the Big Brooklyn Holiday Toy Drive.
DOWNTOWN – Tuesday, December 5th, 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm, 2 MetroTech Center
Brooklyn’s Largest Tree (this year – at 55 feet) Lighting will feature live Reindeer and Santa, a performance by Brooklyn Ballet, plus holiday treats and cheer. This is the 28th-annual Light Up the Holidays @MetroTech event, Downtown Brooklyn’s official holiday season kickoff, event sponsorForest City New York announced. The event will also feature a performance from the Brooklyn Friends School and demonstration from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering.
- BOROUGH HALL – Christmas Tree Lighting – Tuesday, December 5, 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
- McKinley Park, Bay Ridge Parkway and Fort Hamilton Parkway, Thursday, December 7th starting at 6:30 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Dyker Heights Civic Association and Senator Marty Golden, there will be hot chocolate, carols, Santa Claus and collection for Toys for Tots.
MARINE PARK – Celebrate the holidays with the annual tree lighting at the historic Dutch farmhouse, the Hendrick L. Lott House on Friday, December 8, 2017, starting at 6 pm. Hosted by Senator Marty Golden and Friends of the Lott House, the festivities will feature holiday music, cookies and cocoa and in true Dutch fashion, a visit from Sinterklaas. The Lott House is located at 1940 East 36th Street between Fillmore Ave. and Ave S.
BAY RIDGE – The 5th Annual Bay Ridge 5th Avenue BID Holiday Celebration will occur on December 9, 2017 from 12 noon to 4 pm. Free Trolley Rides with Santa and his Elf along 5th Avenue from 65th to 85 Street. The Christmas Tree Lighting will be at 4 pm.
- Grand Army Plaza – THE LARGEST MENORAH – Every night of Chanukah is celebrated with live music, hot latkes, and gifts for the children. Starts at 6 pm on December 12.
- BOROUGH HALL – Menorah lighting will take place at 4:30 PM on December 18.
