Holiday Parties, Comedy Shows, Wine Tasting & More This Weekend In Ditmas Park

The weekend is finally here and we’d like to help you unwind or get riled up just blocks from your home. Whether you’re looking for holiday parties, comedy shows, or legendary live music — this is your spot for the hottest weekend events in (and around) Ditmas Park. Friday night party at the Brooklyn Historial Society
When: Friday, December 9 from 5pm to 9pm.
Where: Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street
What: For the history buffs in our neighborhood, it’s worth the trip uptown for this free, Friday night party featuring snowflake crafts, knitting lesson from the Argyle Yarn Shop, a lecture on what NYC was like in the Ice Age, historical snowfall exhibits. Drink beer and enjoy live music by accordion player Matt Veligdan.
How much: Free.

Christmas tree lighting: Windsor Terrace
When: Friday, December 9 at 6:30pm.
Where: Our Lady’s Field (Church), Windsor Place between Prospect Park West and Howard Place.
What: Decorate the tree (BYO ornament), take photos with Santa, compete in an ugly sweater contest, enjoy live holiday music while drinking hot chocolate, cider, and baked goods for purchase — proceeds go to the church’s youth sports program.
How much: Free entrance, pay per item for food.

Gilden Grape’s 12 nights of tasting
When: Friday, December 9 from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday, December 10 from 5pm to 8pm (through Dec. 19)
Where: The Gilded Grape, 727 Church Avenue between East 7th and East 8th Street.
What: Days 2 and 3 of this 12-day tasting feature includes wine from Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Oenology and whiskey from Catskill Provisions — along with raw honey, syrup, chocolates. See the whole schedule here.

Jug Band music at Bar Chord
When: Friday, December 9 at 10pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1008 Cortelyou Road, between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road.
What: Come out for Brooklyn’s most banging jug band.
How Much: Free show, but don’t forget to buy drinks at the bar.

Flatbush Tenant Coalition Panel and meeting
When: Saturday, December 10 at 9:45am to 12:30pm.
Where: Church of the Redeemer, 1921 Cortelyou Road between East 19th Street and Ocean Avenue.
What: Join FTC to learn about expected changes, available resources, and opportunities for community-building in a new political era. Panelists include social justice leaders from immigrant, women’s, housing and civil rights organizations.
How much: Free

Karen Friedland Artist Open House
When: Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11 from 12pm to 5pm.
Where: 190 Marlborough Road between Beverley and
What: Check out local painter Karen Friedland’s array of work, including large and small paintings, postcards, and Art Spark cards to find the painter within.
How much: Free entrance, each item priced individually.

Holiday Fun with Church Avenue BID
When: Saturday, December 10 from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.
Where: Flatbush Reformed Church, 890 Flatbush Avenue at the corner of Church Avenue.
What: Get into the holiday spirit with the tree lighting, pictures with Santa, face painting & free hot chocolate (while supplies last).
How much: Free

Kids holiday party at Flatbush YMCA
When: Saturday, December 10 from 1pm to 7pm
Where: YMCA at 1401 Flatbush Avenue.
What: Come by for dance performances, food and drinks, a cotton candy machine, musical chairs, dance competitions, raffles and other activities. Gifts will also be given out to kids 14 and under, sponsored by State Senator Kevin Parker.
How much: Free

Comedy night: Big Break Lineup in PLG
When: Saturday, December 10 at 8pm.
Where: 504 Flatbush Avenue near Lefferts Avenue.
What: See awesome comics Mark Normand, Jo Firestone, Zardon Richardson, Kevin McCaffrey, Eli Yudin, Courtney Maginnis and Tomas Delgado — with potential pop-ins (last time they got Ilana Glazer from Broad City) Hosted by Tyler Fischer and Charlie Kasov.
How Much: $5

Sex Mob at The Owl
When: Saturday, December 10 at 8pm (doors at 7:30).
Where: The Owl Music Parlor, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Come see this ‘venerable New York City music institution‘ with Steven Bernstein on slide trumpet, Briggan Krauss on alto sax, Tony Scherr on bass, & Kenny Wollesen on drums.
How Much: $10 suggested donation.

Winter Wonderland at the Kings Theater
When: Sunday, December 11 from 11am to 3pm.
Where: Kings Theater, 1027 Flatbush Avenue between Tilden Avenue and Duryea Place.
What: Bring the entire family for this free, open house featuring a petting zoo, photos with Santa, free hot cider, and kids activities. Ditmas Park Corner members get staff discount on tickets for upcoming performances, purchase at the event!
How much: Free, but bring canned foods for CAMBA’s emergency food pantry.

Nature exploration, curiosity corner & more at Prospect Park
When: Sunday, December 11 from 8am to 4pm.
Where: Various locations throughout Prospect Park, including the Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House.
What: Don’t let the cold keep you indoors this weekend, check out nature exploration (10am to 1pm); curiosity corner at the Lefferts Historic House (12pm to 4pm); and more throughout the park. See the full schedule here.
