A restaurant space that’s long had trouble gaining traction may soon see a turnaround as a Michelin-recommended Japanese spot adds an outpost there.

The much-loved Japanese restaurant Wasan will soon be opening a new space at 440 Bergen Street, just off 5th Avenue, reports the Commercial Observer. They’ve been dishing up farm-to-table dishes in the East Village since 2010.

The space they’re moving into was most recently home to Rare Earth, a venture from the owners of the previous restaurant there, Melt. Rare Earth closed this past winter, just four months after opening.

What do you think — is this space just a hard one to attract diners to, or has it simply not had quite the right business there yet?
