It’s T minus 10 hours to Thanksgiving Day 2015! If your’e sticking around the city to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, make sure to arrive early and bundled up for the cold — although thankfully, no umbrella will be needed as rain is not in the forecast (although who are we kidding; we’re New Yorkers, so come prepared with a small portable one or at least a hood on your winter coat).

However, be sure to note that some city services will be closed through the long weekend. Here’s what you need to know, via nyc.gov:

THURSDAY, TURKEY DAY/THANKSGIVING:

  • CLOSED: Government offices, post offices, public libraries, courts, and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • There is NO mail delivery.
  • Public schools are CLOSED Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27.
  • On Thursday, Alternate Side Parking and meters are suspended. No stopping, no standing, and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect 7 days a week or at all times.
  • There is NO garbage, recycling, or organics collection on Thanksgiving Day. If Thursday is your garbage or organics collection day, put your items out
after 4 PM on Thursday

.

  • If Thursday is your recycling collection day, put your items out
after 4 PM on Wednesday, December 2

. Your

recycling will be collected on Thursday, December 3

.

  • The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule. Boats run every 30 minutes between 7 AM and 11 PM. Normal service resumes after 11 PM.
  • New York City subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule this Friday.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27 / BLACK FRIDAY:

  • Public schools are still CLOSED.
  • OPEN: Government offices, including the DMV, libraries, and city and state courts.
  • Mail delivery follows a regular schedule.
  • IN EFFECT: Alternate Side Parking regulations and meters.
  • Regular Schedule: Garbage, recycling, and organics pick-up. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, complaints about missed garbage, organics, and recycling pickup are not accepted for that day.
  • See above regarding Thursday garbage, organics, or recycling pick-up.
  • The Staten Island Ferry follows a normal weekday schedule.

Also, here’s where you can lookup the Brooklyn streets that will be closed to traffic from Friday, November 27 through Sunday, November 29, according to the Department of Transit.

Have a safe, happy, and healthy Thanksgiving!
