Here’s A Roundup Of Local Pols Administering Free Flu Shots This Month
The start of October officially ushered in this year’s flu season and local politicians are partnering with medical centers to provide free flu shots this month.
Flu season typically runs from October until May. The Center for Disease Control recommends that everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccination as early as possible. On average, the flu contributes to 23,607 deaths in the United States each year, according to the CDC.
Last year’s flu season was particularly nasty. The virus that spread rapidly across the country was not the strain used in the vaccine, meaning the flu shot was only effective for 25 percent of people who received it, according to the Daily News.
This year’s vaccine is expected to be stronger and protect against three different types of flu, including the strain that did so much damage last year, reports the Daily News.
