Here We Blow Again

Mother Nature’s quest to flatten and/or submerge New York City is entering round two today as Winter Storm Athena (had no idea they named winter storms until this morning) blows on shore.

Although not nearly as intense as Sandy, Athena is definitely packing a punch with cold rain/slush, sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts of up to 60 mph.

As a precaution, all local parks and playgrounds are closed today until noon on Thursday. If you are going to be outside during the storm, be aware of your surroundings. Even outside the parks, trees took a nasty beating during Sandy and could possibly have weakened branches.

Stay safe out there, South Slope. We’ll keep you updated on how Athena is affecting the neighborhood as it progresses.
