Want to help local trees, and take home one of your own? On Sunday, October 20, the Gowanus Canal Conservancy is hosting Clean & Green: Autumn Tree Stewardship, Compost Windrow Build, and Tree Giveaway, their first autumn tree stewardship day, when you can help work on tree pruning, removing pavers from tree pits, amending soil with compost, and spreading mulch. To RSVP and for more info, contact volunteer@gowanuscanalconservancy.org.

Additionally, they’ll be hosting a MillionTreesNYC tree giveaway at the Salt Lot (2 2nd Avenue) from 11am-1pm. You can reserve a tree online now, where you can choose between four trees that might do better depending on where you’re planting yours. If you reserve one, note that you have to pick it up by noon, or it may be given away to someone else.
