UPDATE: Alleged Gunman Kevon Brown Charged With Attempted Murder
The 70th Precinct is seeking the public’s help in locating a man they believe shot three people yesterday and attempted to shoot two police officers.
Police say Kevon Brown is suspected of opening fire at 3:24pm on one 25-year-old man and one 42-year-old man in front of 33 Lenox Rd. between Flatbush and Bedford Aves., then attempting to shoot two police officers who tried to intervene, and finally shooting a 24-year-old man after a struggle at 50 Lenox Rd. while fleeing the scene.
All three victims were taken by EMS to Kings County Hospital, where police say the 25-year-old man is in stable condition with a wound to the torso, the 42-year-old man is in critical condition with wounds to the torso and leg, and the 24-year-old man is in stable condition with a graze wound to the neck.
Kevon Brown is 30 years old, 5’10” and 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and multicolored shorts.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
Our friend Tim from The Q at Parkside notes that “it’s not everyday a maniac shoots people at 50 Lenox,” and adds:
Though truthfully, the block’s got a couple problem spots. Ask anyone who lives there. As with so many blocks around here, vast majority great people…few rough spots holding the block hostage. Same story over and over.
If you live in that area and want to share your thoughts on this, or any safety issues in the neighborhood, or to just get involved in helping to make your neighborhood a safer place to be, The Q notes that the Clarkson Ave Block Association will be hosting the first of potentially many informational meetings with Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes, who will be sharing a plan to rid the area of guns, gangs, and drugs, a plan the DA’s office claims has “never failed.” The meeting is on Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30pm at 40 Clarkson, in the basement community room.
As for yesterday’s shooting, anyone with information about the crime or the identity and the whereabouts of this suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting your tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. The NYPD says all calls are confidential.
UPDATE: According to photographer Shimon Gifter, Brown was just arrested on Lenox Rd. Shimon says: “NYPD just arrested Brown who was being sought for a shooting of three people. Mr. brown was arrested at Lenox rd and Bedford.”
UPDATE JUNE 4: The New York Post confirms that Brown was arrested, and has been charged with five counts of attempted murder.
