With about one in four children facing hunger in our city, there’s no question help is needed — and, beginning this Sunday, May 10, you can easily lend a hand to help feed thousands of families by donating to City Harvest’s “Feed Our Kids” food drive.

The drive launches on Mother’s Day and continues until Father’s Day on June 21. The kid-friendly, non-perishable items will then go to City Harvest’s network of more than 500 soup kitchens, food pantries and other community programs that serve hungry children and their families across the five boroughs.

So, how can you help?

  • Run your own food drive: Running a drive is easy! All you need is a box and a location to set it up. You can download a City Harvest toolkit for school drives here and for company drives here. If you’d like an already-made poster to help with your drive, you can get that here. At the end of your drive, call City Harvest at 646-412-0758 or email them at fooddrives@cityharvest.org to schedule a pick-up for donations of 100 pounds or more. Please contact them at least seven days before your desired pick-up date.
  • Drop off food to firehouses, police stations, banks & more: If you have less than 100 pounds of food you’d like to donate, you can drop that off at any FDNY or NYPD station, all Apple Bank locations, or City Harvest’s office at 6 East 32nd Street in Manhattan.  In Bensonhurst, the two Apple Bank locations: 6701 18th Avenue and 1973 86th Street

What should you donate?

  • The most needed items are: canned fruit, canned vegetables, peanut butter in plastic jars, packaged macaroni and cheese, and packaged hot and cold cereal. Please note dented cans, open packaging, products that need refrigeration, homemade foods, or expired goods will not be accepted.

For more information, contact City Harvest by emailing fooddrives@cityharvest.org or calling 646-412-0758.
