Help Create A Fantasy Subway Station At The 4th-9th Stop

How do you envision the 4th Avenue-9th Street subway station? Some neighbors are planning a pop-up installation to draw attention to the dismal conditions at the local stop, and they’re hoping to get more of the community involved.

Using money collected in a fundraiser, on Friday, November 21, the Park Slope Civic Council, Park Slope Neighbors, Arts Gowanus, the Fifth Avenue Committee, Make Brooklyn Safer, and Transportation Alternatives want to create a fantasy station with paper and canvas props, costumes and portable lights — picture a scene with street-level shops, bike racks, way-finding signage, and more. They’ll also collect community feedback on what would make this station better, and are inviting officials to the event and hopefully provide updates on the long-delayed renovations.

“We want to make sure that future plans make the streetscape safer and more livable,” the Civic Council writes on their site. “This activity is about imagining a bright future.”

Got some great ideas? You can help plan and build props this Saturday, November 15 from 12:30-4pm at the Fifth Ave Committee offices, 621 Degraw Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues.

Then the event will take place outside of the station on November 21 — in the morning, people will hand out flyers to commuters, then they’ll set up, watch over, and explain the installation to people passing by.
