Help Clean Up The Prospect Park Lakeside On Saturday, May 14
Looking for a volunteer opportunity to bring you out of your winter shell? Village Community Boathouse, in partnership with The Prospect Park Community Committee and W.I.L.D. for Prospect Park, is organizing a volunteer lakeside cleanup to remove garbage and debris from the shoreline, the Village Community Boathouse president told us.
Village Community Boathouse, an all-volunteer non-profit, offers community rowing and boatbuilding sessions to promote local access to urban waterways. Their fleet consists of homemade “Whitehall gigs” modeled after 1890-style rowboats that were sailed in the NY Harbor.
All of their boats, which are made of primarily plywood and epoxy, are built by volunteers and housed at their “boathouse” on Wellhouse Drive in Prospect Park. (The boathouse is actually made of two shipping containers!)
Just like last year, Village Community Boathouse is offering free public rowing sessions at the Prospect Park Lake, Saturdays from June 4 to August 7, 12–4pm.
Come by on Saturday, May 14 to usher in the summer rowing season and join a new crew.
Volunteer information: Saturday, May 14 at 11:00am. Meet at the boathouse shipping containers opposite the launch ramp, by the southwest corner of the lake.
