Earlier this month, the city Department of Education (DOE) released details of their proposed rezoning plan for School District 13, which mapped out planned changes to expand PS 307’s zone to include Vinegar Hill and DUMBO while reducing the size of PS 8’s zone to focus more on Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn.

Now parents and the school communities will be able to learn more about the proposal, and also speak out officially about any concerns they have about the process or the changes themselves.

This Wednesday, September 16 is the first of two town hall meetings between DOE officials, members of the local Community Education Council District 13 board, and residents. It will be held at 6pm at PS 307 in Vinegar Hill at 209 York Street.

A second town hall will take place on Monday, September 21 from 6:30-8pm at PS 8 at 37 Hicks Street.

If you can’t make the town halls, you can also submit comments via email to CEC 13 to CEC13@nyc.schools.gov with copies to the superintendent, BFreeman6@nyc.schools.gov, and to the planners, BrooklynZoning@nyc.schools.gov.

The DOE’s formal presentation of the plan will take place on Wednesday, September 30, at CEC 13’s monthly meeting, beginning at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held at PS 307.
