After a push from neighbors, Council Member Mathieu Eugene announced in June that he would implement Participatory Budgeting for District 40.

The first meeting to help decide on at least $1 million in capital projects you’d like to see funded in our area is this Sunday, September 20 from 5-7:30pm at Grace Reformed Church at 1800 Bedford Avenue. All residents living in the district who are 14 years old or older are permitted to vote.

The implementation of Participatory Budgeting follows much advocacy on the part of neighbors, who for years have said they’d like to see Eugene participate in the program that was offered by 24 Council members this year, allowing more than 51,000 New Yorkers to vote this spring on $32 million in capital projects across the city. Neighbors recently joined forces to encourage Eugene to adopt the program, launching the Residents of District 40 For Participatory Budgeting.

There will be additional meetings on September 28 from 6:30-9pm at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church at 331 Hawthorne Street and on October 7 from 6:30-9pm at St. Paul’s Church at 157 St. Paul’s Place.
