A few years ago, seven-year-old Oliver King decided he wanted a go-kart, so he drew up a plan with help from his dad and the two of them built one. It took a couple of weeks, but once the wood was painted yellow and red, the black tractor seat they purchased online attached, and the number “17” painted up front, it was ready to go.

“I really like riding it down the street in Fort Greene Park. At one point we took a rope and attached it to my brother’s bike and we towed each other around. That was really fun,” said Oliver, now 10. “For sure, it’s very heavy. Maybe someone will see it and let us know.”

Oliver’s hoping someone will find it because someone else took it out of his front yard on Cumberland Street, between DeKalb and Lafayette Avenues, on the afternoon of Monday, August 10.

“It was standing in front of the house because we’re finishing renovations,” explained Oliver’s mother, Mimi. “It was between trash bags, but inside our fence. We saw someone looking at it and were going to take it inside, but thought it’s so enormously heavy that no one would take it. But when my oldest son came home and said the go-kart is gone, we ran out and hoped it would be down the block. It looks like maybe they took it into a car.

“He made a flier to hang around then neighborhood, so if it’s still here, hopefully someone will see,” she added.
