Have you had all you can take of mainstream politics in the United States? Has reality gone to a place that is just too dark for you?

Maybe art is the only force that can take on the issues the country is grappling with right now.

Public arts organization Creative Time and Mexican artist Pedro Reyes have unveiled Doomocracy at the Brooklyn Army Terminal — a three-story haunted house “experience” that “distill the horrors of our political landscape…inviting us to navigate a maze of near apocalyptic torments, from climate change to pandemic gun violence to GMOs.”

WNYC describes Doomocracy as a “dystopian vision of a near future” mixed with lots of black humor.

Think of it as folk art interpreting the 2016 American political scene. Singing cheerleaders, virtual reality headsets and Twinkie coffins speak to the real life terrors of government surveillance, corporate abuse and environmental destruction.

We can’t wait to see it.

Tickets to Doomocracy are free but limited — they must be reserved in advance. Appropriately, the show runs through Halloween.

Performances of Doomocracy take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 6pm and midnight. Entry is timed. The final arrival is at 10 pm. The performance lasts approximately 2 hours from arrival to exit.

Upon admission, visitors are first brought to the Doomocracy bar, and then led to the haunted house experience in groups of 10 to 12 people. The bar is open for all visitors until 11:30pm.
