Today, August 26, is National Dog Day — a day to bask in the company of your furry friend while celebrating with a treat or two, as well as some fun discounts over at Who’s Your Doggy and Heart of Brooklyn Veterinary Hospital.

But what to do to celebrate? A few local dogs chimed in to tell us what they love to about living and playing in Fort Greene. Here’s what they had to say.

Charlie Brown, 8 year old rescue beagle, Fort Greene (near Vanderbilt and Myrtle Avenues)“Everyone is so nice to me here and there are lots of other doggies to play with as well as a huge park for me to run around in! I also like the new Chipotle that has opened up on Myrtle.”Leopold Bloom, three years old, Clinton Hill“My mom reads a lot and I like to snuggle on the couch so we spend a lot of time at Greenlight Books. They have books for her and treats for me. I always pull her to take me inside even if she doesn’t need a book. And somehow she always finds one that she does need.I also like to ride the G train in my tote bag. I’m a busy dog with places to be. I live in Clinton Hill and you can follow me on Facebook and Instagram.

G the dog, 16 human years“I enjoy the variety of local cuisine and outdoor dining. Choice Market dog biscuits and brunch at Primrose Cafe are favorites!”

Bode the golden doodle, almost four years old, Fort Greene“Thee best thing about this neighborhood (other than Fort Greene Park, of course!) are the friends I have, including Anke the German Shepherd, and Seamus, a Belgian malinois.  Seamus just moved away, so I’m really sad, but there are lots of other dogs to play with, including Dusty. I also LOVE the Great Pupkin Halloween Costume Contest!
