Halloween Scenes From Around Ditmas Park

After Hurricane Sandy kept many trick-or-treaters from fully reveling in the holiday last year, it was great to see everyone out flaunting their scariest, silliest, and smartest Halloween costumes last night. From trains to dragons to mini-cops and more, here are some photos by neighbors as well of us that really captured yesterday’s “spirit.”

This year’s Prospect Park South parade was newly-hosted by the Lindsay-Abaire family on the corner of Albemarle and Argyle, who did a fantastic job. That’s were we caught this space family, who had paper flames coming off the back of their stroller, too!

We ran into DPC writer Avi Glickstein and his little monster, who stayed awake just long enough for this picture…

… met a ladybug who wasn’t sure if she wanted to pet our dog…

… and saw the most fantastic dragon just getting accustomed to his scales!

Nathan Thompson (whose house had some very spooky smoke rolling out the door) caught these great shots:

This little guy was earning his keep…

Oh, and Heisenberg and friends were on hand, too.

We’d like to thank officers from the 70th Precinct for taking out the time to come to the parade, and especially for assisting some neighbors in helping to find a local “Amelia Earhart” who, true to character, went missing–but not for long.

“During the parade, the police informed me that they were searching for a lost 8-year-old girl who was dressed as Amelia Earhart,” says Nathan, who promptly got on a loudspeaker to announce the problem. “Amelia showed up on the Noury family’s porch and they put it together that she had drifted from her mom,” he says. “The photo below is of the cops who picked her up when she was found.”

So thanks again, officers, and thanks to the Noury family! We’re glad Amelia made it back safely, and she looks no worse for wear/about ready to eat some candy.

The West Midwood Parade met a bit later than Prospect Park South, and included dressed up dogs, music, a terrifying eyeball monster, and more…

… and the Community Affairs officers made it there, too! (From left to right, Officer Kim Walker, Sergeant Brian Lane, Detective Dominick Scotto, and Lieutenant Jackie Bourne.) We’ll just pretend those are light-up cat ears on Officer Scotto’s head and not lights way off in the background.

And then came the inevitable moment, also caught by Nathan, which someone clearly wasn’t too happy about. Neighbor Nicole (aka Spanky Tomato) wrote today to say her friends Billy and Barbara DeQuaglio gave out 1,150 pieces of candy last night. Sounds like all the trick-or-treaters had better pace themselves.

Whatever you wore and wherever you went, we hope everybunny (not just cartmankid) had a blast. Can’t wait to see what you cook up next year!
