Since it looks like hurricane Matthew won’t be making an appearance this weekend, get out and enjoy the autumn days with great events just blocks from your home. Whether you’re looking to rock a half-marathon, buy some local art, or peep some leaves in Prospect Park — this is your spot for the hottest weekend events in (and around) Ditmas Park. Illegal Mezcal Music series at Bar Chord
When: Friday, October 7 at 10pm.
Where: Bar Chord, 1008 Cortelyou Road, between Coney Island Avenue and Stratford Road
What: The Jack Grace band comes to the small, intimate venue at Bar Chord. Jack’s experimental country rock has been written up in the New York Times as — “Cole Porter meets Gene Autry.”
How Much: Free show, but don’t forget to buy drinks at the bar.
Strangelove at Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco at Lefrak Skating Center
When: Friday, October 7 from 7:30pm to 10pm.
Where: Lefrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park.
What: It’s goth and new wave night at Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco, with retro DJ sets and prizes for roller dancing skills. (This event is 21+)
How Much: $18 per person
Saturday:
Dare to Dream College Fair
When: Saturday, October 8 from 3pm to 6pm.
Where: Midwood High School, 2839 Bedford Avenue between Glenwood and Campus Roads.
What: Discuss college opportunities, admission requirements and financial aid assistance with representatives from numerous local colleges and universities. Plus, enjoy some live DJ music while you’re at it.
How Much: Free
Brooklyn Rock’n’ Roll Half Marathon
When: Saturday, October 8 from 7am to 11am.
Where: Ocean Avenue, Ocean Parkway, Eastern Parkway and more.
What: The Rock’n’Roll half marathon returns to Brooklyn, bringing more than 17,000 runners, live bands and a morning of festivities. Everything you need to know about road closures, detours and no parking zones here.
How Much: Runners have already registered, but its free to watch.
Art & Craft fair at Flatbush-Tompkins Congregational Church
When: Saturday, October 8 from 10am to 5pm.
Where: 424 East 19th Street and Dorchester Road.
What: Check out more than 25 local artists and artisans exhibiting and selling their work.
How Much: Free entrance with light refreshments.
Pop-Up Audubon: Fantastic Foliage
When: Saturday, October 8, 10am to 3pm.
Where: Prospect Park, Zuckner Natural Exploration Area.
What: Who says you have to travel to peep some great leaves? Check out Brooklyn’s last remaining forest as a real-world laboratory for hands-on discovery, especially with the autumn foliage. Sturgill Simpson at the Kings Theater
When: Saturday, October 8 at 8pm.
Where: The Kings Theater, 1027 Flatbush Avenue between Tilden Avenue and Duryea Place.
What: Sturgill Simpson performs from his widely praised new album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.

Electronic Waste Recycling at the Flatbush Food Co-op
When: Sunday, October 9 from 10am to 4pm.
Where: Flatbush Food Co-op at 1415 Cortelyou Road between Rugby and Marlborough Roads.
What: Drop off your unwanted or broken electronics this Sunday, including working and non-working computers, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, cables, TVs (all sizes), VCR & DVD players, phones, audio/visual equipment, video games, and cell phones.
How Much: Free
Multi-family garage sale
When: Sunday and Monday, October 9 and 10 from 12pm to 5pm.
Where: 510 East 8th Street between Ditmas Avenue and Cortelyou Road. AND Sunday at 495 Rugby Road from 10am to 5pm.
What: One person’s trash is another’s treasure! Buy art, jewelry, toys, clothing, books, dishes, baby stuff and more from your neighbors.

Cortelyou Greenmarket on Sundays
When: Every Sunday from 8am to 3pm.
Where: Cortelyou Road between Argyle and Rugby Roads.

Elysian Fields and Secret Sibling at The Owl
When: Sunday, October 9 at 8pm (doors at 7:30pm).
Where: The Owl Music Parlour, 497 Rogers Avenue between Midwood and Maple Streets.
What: Elysian Fields brings its moody art rock, dream wave jazz to the Owl before embarking on a European tour.
