We all know that southwestern Brooklyn is a seriously underrated foodie paradise. And apparently, Yelpers are catching on. Nine restaurants in Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge, Gravesend, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights made Yelp’s 2015 list of 100 Best Places to Eat in Brooklyn — including two that opened fairly recently.

The highest ranking Bensonhurst eatery on the list was the 4-year-old Panino Rustico, which came in at #33, followed by the brand new Bath Beach-based Liu’s Shanghai which ranked #44.

Two of the neighborhood’s iconic Italian fixtures also made the list, including Mama Rao Cucina Italiana in Dyker Heights at #55, and the stalwart Lioni Italian Heroes at #59. In Gravesend, the Turkish Taci’s Beyti pulled in a #57, and Uzbek hot spot Nargis Cafe just barely made the list at #95.

Several Bay Ridge mainstays also racked up the stars this year, most notably The Family Store, a beloved Middle Eastern fusion spot which came in at #2(!!) for the borough. Third Avenue’s Brooklyn Beet Company made it to #52, Petit Oven was #71, and Fort Hamilton’s Taqueria El Puente ranked #80.

To calculate the Top 100, Yelp’s data scientists say they used a complex algorithm based on the Wilson Score, which takes into account both star rating and number of reviews to reveal which spots not only have top notch ratings, but also which are most popular in the borough.
