Growing Leaders Greenmarket Kicks Off Today On Benson Avenue
Green-thumbed students from the Expeditionary Learning School for Community Leaders aren’t letting summer vacation get in their way of helping area residents stay healthy throughout the year.
With guidance from the school’s Garden Coordinator Arielle Hartman, pint-sized cultivators of the land have set up what they call the Growing Leaders Greenmarket in front of the school, 2630 Benson Avenue (the Lafayette Educational Complex), and are selling freshly-picked organic produce to health-conscious members of the community.
The farmstand, which not only offers fresh local produce, but also a compost drop-off, free recipes, cooking demos, workshops and more, kicks off today and will be open every Thursday from noon to 5:00 p.m.
According to Hartman, “This is a great opportunity to put our food to good use… We really want to get the community involved by hosting workshops, cooking demos and special market promotions. Our goal is to create connections between our students and like minded community members who are just as passionate about good food as we are.”
Sounds good to us. Go check out the Growing Leaders Greenmarket and let us know what you think.
