Recchia Laughs As Grimm Flubs District Number On Documents
Congressman Michael Grimm became the butt of jokes in political circles after repeatedly flubbing the name of his district on official documents.
According to a report in the New York Daily News, Grimm had listed the wrong district in his official Federal Election Commission forms. Grimm listed his Staten Island-based district as the 13th and not the 11th, which it became on January 1 of this year. Democrat Charles Rangel currently presides over the new District 13.
A spokeswoman for Grimm’s staff apologized for the embarrassing gaffe.
“NY-13 was the old district. It was an oversight and will be amended,” the spokeswoman told the Daily News.
Councilman Domenic Recchia, who is challenging Grimm for his seat in 2014, was quick to lambaste the Congressman.
“Michael Grimm is so out-of-touch that he doesn’t even know who he represents in Congress. While he’s busy trying to stay out of jail for shady fundraising and cozying up to the Tea Party, he’s ignoring the real problems the people of his district face, especially strengthening the middle class. There’s no question that Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. will know which district he represents – and its values,” said Emily Bittner, a spokeswoman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign.
We won’t say “petty,” but… wait, we will say it. That’s petty.
