Councilman David Greenfield has allocated $20,000 to fund ongoing street cleanings and sweepings along 16th Avenue, his office announced.

The cleanups will be organized by the Midwood Development Corporation, whose workers will sweep up sidewalks and remove debris from an unspecified portion of the strip. Details are still being worked out, so it’s unclear how many blocks will be covered by the funding, how many workers will be involved, and how many days a week cleanups will take place – but the councilman’s office indicated to Bensonhurst Bean that it will be more than one cleaning a week.

“I know how hard merchants work to serve our community and how important thriving shopping areas are to our neighborhoods. That’s why I am proud to partner with Midwood Development Corporation and provide them with the funding needed to bring their Project Sweep effort to more communities around the district,” said Greenfield in a press release.

The Midwood Development Corporation’s Project Sweep has provided employment to local adults with developmental disabilities for 23 years.
