A beautification grant from former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz is about to make local streets a little greener, according to the Fulton Area Business Alliance.

The organization says the $100,000 in allocated funds received will go to adding more trees to Fulton Street and surrounding blocks throughout Fort Greene in Clinton Hill, as well as removing old tree stumps and keeping arbors protected with tree guards. FAB will be working in conjunction with the NYC Parks Department.

FAB Alliance Executive Director Phillip Kellogg tells us the area beautification project will start this week with the expansion of existing beds, so that trees are better able to grow and flourish. A survey is underway to determine exactly where and how many new trees will be planted, and planting is scheduled to begin around October.
