Got a Bike? Support the Local Businesses Who Support Your Mode of Transport

You may have noticed these green stickers popping up recently on several businesses along Cortelyou Road. Local cyclists Rene Netter and Julie May have been lining up shops to participate in the Transportation Alternatives Bike Friendly Business program, which aims to encourage shoppers to travel by bike to their destinations.

Businesses can qualify for the program by supporting bringing bike initiatives to the neighborhood (like requesting more bike racks, corrals, or bike lanes), by having a “bike rules” brochure in their shop to instruct cyclists on how to bike safely, or by giving a discount to customers who come to the shop by bike.

You can support these local businesses that have already signed up, and keep checking windows for the decal or the TA site as more businesses in our neighborhood join:

Brooklyn Hearth, Brooklyn Public Library, Cafe Madeline, Cortelyou Hardware*, Cortelyou Road Pediatrics, Cortelyou Superette*, Jennifer’s Beauty World, Kathmandu Deli, Market, Natural Frontier, Qathra, Salahi Deli, and TB Ackerson.

*Indicates businesses that are offering a discount to customers who arrive by bike.
