Go Mad For STEAM With These 5 Summer Science Camps
If bugs, engineering, soda explosions, or slime make your kids smile from ear to ear, consider spending a summer with one of Brooklyn’s fantastic science camps. Not sure where to start? Here are five options from across the borough:
Engineering For Kids
80 Willoughby Street (between Lawrence and Bridge Streets)
If your kids (ages 4 to 14) are ready to “use their imagination, learn, and have fun,” keep Engineering For Kids on your summer science camp radar. Each thematic session lasts one week and includes topics such as engineering, space, robotics, 3D printing, and more. The $525 weeklong sessions run from 9 am to 4 pm, with extended hours available for an additional fee.
FasTracKids
Locations in Park Slope, Williamsburg, Bay Ridge, and Sheepshead Bay
With locations across the borough, FasTracKids offers a number of flexible programs for your summer science camp needs. Choose from weekly themes such as Minecraft, technology, anatomy of me, and astronomy. The program is geared toward children between the ages of 5 and 10, and extended day options are available.
Geek Forest
329 Grand Street (betwen Havemeyer Street and Marcy Avenue)
Engineering, coding, robotics, and more can be found at The Geek Forest science camp this summer. Both half and full day options are available for children ages 5 to 12, with prices ranging from $300 to $550 per week. There is no food included in the program, though, so be sure to send plenty of snacks, lunch, and a refillable water bottle to camp with your kiddo.
Science Is Fun – Engineering Rocks
372 Clinton Avenue (between Lafayette and Greene Avenues)
Explore motion, find out why things float, and get hands-on with electronics at the Science is Fun – Engineering Rocks summer camp. The weekly sessions ($575 per week if you register before May 1) are geared toward children ages 6 to 12 and includes a morning and afternoon snack. Campers must bring their own lunches, but note that no peanuts or peanut butter are allowed.
The Tiny Scientist
1624 8th Avenue (between 16th Street and Windsor Place)
Kids between the ages of 5 and 10 will spend the summer in South Slope harnessing the sun’s energy, freezing bubbles, fighting crime, learning about paleontology, and even talking about boogers and farts at The Tiny Scientist summer camp. The weeklong sessions are $500, with extended day options available for an additional fee.
