While the New York State Chess Championship doesn’t begin until Saturday, we can say the PS 139 Chess Ninjas  have already made their neighborhood proud!

Twenty-four players, from first through fifth grades, and their coach, Ian West, have done such an outstanding job this year that they get to head to Saratoga Springs for the competition that lasts all day Saturday and Sunday.

“I’m extremely proud of how cheerfully and consistently these kids have applied themselves to building their knowledge base and their discipline routines this year, and I look forward to watching them enjoy the fruits of their labors,” Ian wrote to us.

The student who will be competing include: Robbie, Tashi, Michelle, Aayushma, Ellis, Rohit, Alexander, Brian, Ryan, Emmet, Aowyn, Sonam, Ariana, Ngawang, Vivian, Kristy, Declan, Maya, Emma, Bea, Polly, Kalsang, Nevin, and Henry.

The Ninjas are also aiming to go to Nashville for the Elementary National Championship, for which they’re in the midst of their yearly fundraising push. If you’d like to contribute to the cause, you can go here.

Congratulations to the amazing PS 139 Chess Ninjas!
