Give Blood This Friday In Memory Of Detective Dillon Stewart
This Friday, November 15, the 70th Precinct will be holding its annual blood drive in honor of Detective Dillion Stewart. The event will be held in front of the precinct (154 Lawrence Avenue between Ocean Parkway and Seton Place) from 12:30-6pm.
Detective Stewart was killed in the line of duty on November 28, 2005 while attempting to pull over Alan Cameron for running a red light. He continued his pursuit even after one of Cameron’s bullets pierced his heart, but died in surgery several hours later. Cameron has since been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Detective Stewart’s partner, Detective Paul Lipka, died from injuries sustained in a Staten Island motorcycle accident earlier this year.
Although the blood drive has been in Detective Stewart’s honor in the past, both his death and Detective Lipka’s passing are tragic reminders as to why you might consider donating if you are able. See the requirements for donating blood through the NY Blood Center, and call 70th Precinct Community Affairs at 718-851-5557 for more information.
