The Hip Hop Hall Of Fame and Museum (HOF) has started a crowd-funding effort to honor the Notorious B.I.G. in a unique way.

The GoFundMe page seeks to raise $35,000 which would be put towards finishing the six foot sculpture, which the HOF hopes would be placed in Putnam Triangle Plaza, as well as a $10,000 contribution to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, reports DNAinfo. The project is a collaboration between artist Tanda Francis, the Hip Hop Hall of Fame and Museum, and Down Lo Music CEO Dennis Mathis.

“I want people to feel the presence. It’s a big piece, to draw you in,” said Francis to NY1.

Once the sculpture is completed, it would still need to gain approval from both the City Council and the local community board. It has not yet been presented to either, reported DNAinfo.

Born Christopher Wallace, Biggie grew up at 226 St. James Place. There’s been some question as to whether he’s a son of Clinton Hill or Bedford-Stuyvesant. Biggie was killed when he was 24 in a shooting in 1997.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams declared May 21 “Christopher ‘The Notorious B.I.G.’ Wallace Day.”

“So I think we do murals — that’s cool — but one day they’re gonna paint over those depending on what the landlord of the building is but if you put a sculpture, then that’s permanent and it’s not just to memorialize him but economically what it does to the area.” said Mathis to NY1.
