We count ourselves lucky to have an organization like CAMBA in the community, which is why we have partnered with them this year for the CAMBA Healthy Way 5k fundraiser. We hope you will join us in supporting them, and we’d like to tell you a bit more about the outstanding work CAMBA is doing just down Prospect Park West at the Park Slope Women’s Shelter.

Run by CAMBA since 1996, the Park Slope Women’s Shelter, located in the Armory, recently expanded their services to provide beds for 100 women suffering with mental illness and chemical addiction. More than just a safe place to rest their heads, though, the center offers residents an opportunity to stabilize their condition and move toward permanent and/or supported housing with medical and psychiatric care, therapeutic recreational activities like organic gardening, and empowerment events that help give residents the confidence they need to succeed in the outside world.

And we can’t forget the shelter’s festive tree lighting celebration, which brings residents, staff, and neighbors together to say thank you for all of the community’s support.

If you’d like to support CAMBA’s Park Slope Women’s Shelter, one fun way to do it is by signing up for the CAMBA Healthy Way 5k, scheduled for Sunday, May 4. You can register to participate here – but even if you are unable to attend the event, there are several other ways to help make it a success. Whichever way you choose, taking part in the Healthy Way 5k means you’ll be helping others — and there’s no greater feeling than that.
