Are you looking for a job? Whether you’re unemployed, underemployed, or hoping for a transition into something more suited to your career goals and needs, the Brooklyn Job Fair is the place to be this Wednesday, May 13, from 3-6pm — although you’ll want to arrive early, dress in business casual or formal business attire, and carry multiple copies of your resume, plus be ready to email it to a potential employer.

Hosted by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams’ office, the job fair is the second annual such event to be held at Brooklyn Borough Hall (209 Joralemon Street). Last year, thousands of job-hopefuls lined up, resumes in hand, representing all ages, walks of life, experience, and ethnicity.

Adams’ office cites statistics by the New York State Department of Labor: Brooklyn’s unemployment rate in March 2015 was 6.7%, a higher number than that of the city and the state.

“A Brooklynite with a job is a Brooklynite with boundless potential, and during my administration Brooklyn Borough Hall will always be a place committed to opening the doors to those opportunities,” said Adams, who also listed a series of tips to job applicants:

  • dress for success,
  • research the companies in advance,
  • prepare to answer questions about yourself,
  • actively listen,
  • show enthusiasm,
  • follow up all meetings with e-mails.

“A strong economy means a strong Brooklyn, and we can accomplish both by getting our talented Brooklynites working,” added Carlo Scissura, the Brooklyn Chamber’s president/CEO. “I want to thank Borough President Adams and all the participating companies for doing their part to hire Brooklyn employees and improve the local business climate.”

Businesses participating in Brooklyn Job Fair 2015 include All Car Rent A Car, Applebee’s, the Brooklyn Nets, Duane Reade, FC Modular, Forest City Ratner Companies, The Home Depot, Maimonides Medical Center, Midwood Ambulance Service, Modell’s Sporting Goods, NYC Bike Share, Santander Bank, Sheraton Brooklyn, Target, TerraCRG, and Urban Pads.
Businesses interested in participating in future job fairs hosted by Borough President Adams are encouraged to call (718) 802-3700.
