If you’re looking for a place to get rid of your food scraps, Compost for Brooklyn (Newkirk Avenue at E. 8th Street) announced it will be offering winter compost hours on:

  • Every Thursday, 2-4pm
  • Every second and fourth Saturday, 11am-1pm (January 10 and 24, February 14 and 28)
  • Every first and third Sunday, 2-4pm (January 4 and 18, February 1 and 15)

The dates are subject to change pending weather and volunteer availability.

Items that are accepting for composting include residential food scraps, such as potato peels, apple cores, coffee grinds, tea leaves, etc. They do not accept dairy, meat, bones, woody material, lawn clippings, coconut shells, or “compostable” dinnerware.

Also, Compost for Brooklyn is always looking for neighbors who’d love to help out! If you’re interested in volunteering, you can go here or email compostforbrooklyn@gmail.com and include VOLUNTEER in the subject line.
