Gentile Aide Urges Action Against Puppy Mills
Puppies, America’s favorite thing, are in danger and a local animal rights activist wants your help in protecting them. In a press release, Justin Brannan, legislative aide to Councilman Vincent Gentile and president of the Bay Ridge Democrats, is urging people to contact State Senator Marty Golden to pass a bill that would allow local governments to regulate puppy mills.
Puppy mills are large-scale commercial breeding operations that are often negligent to the well-being of their animals. Brannan described the terrible conditions puppies are exposed to in mills and the action about to be taken by the New York State Senate:
Breeding dogs in puppy mills typically spend their entire lives in tiny, cramped, wire-floored cages that are stacked on top of each other—often outdoors, with no protection from the elements. The puppies that these breeding dogs produce often arrive in pet stores—and their new homes—with diseases, parasites or congenital and hereditary conditions.
The good news is that the vote to crack down on puppy mills in the New York Senate is going to happen ANY DAY NOW!
New York Senate Bill # 3753 would give local governments the power to crack down on cruel and unscrupulous pet dealers but my State Senator Martin Golden has yet to see the light on this bill. He needs to know why this is important to his constituents. So if you live in Senator Golden’s’ district, he needs to hear from YOU to convince him to support the bill!
