Gail Flanery’s Solor Show ‘Coloratura’ Opens At 440 Gallery This Week

Artist Gail Flanery‘s solo show, Coloratura — which means “coloring” in Italian, and refers to elaborate operatic melody — goes up this week at 440 Gallery (440 6th Avenue), with an opening reception on Friday, September 19 from 6-9pm.

The collection of works on paper feature bright, rich colors and contrasts. Primarily a printmaker, Flanery creates one-of-a-kind monotypes by manipulating inks and printing plates and later adding pastel or pencil to the print. 440 notes that in her recent work she has also added elements of Chine-collé and collage, usually strips of handmade paper.

Flanery is a graduate of Cooper Union, has worked with a number of master printers, and currently works at the shop of Master Printer Kathy Caraccio. Flanery’s work is in dozens of private and corporate collections and in the permanent collection of the Jane Vorhees Zimmerli Art Museum.
