Funeral Arrangements Set For Officer Wenjian Liu
Funeral arrangements have been set for Officer Wenjian Liu, a Gravesend resident who was ambushed and brutally
murdered, along with Officer Rafael Ramos of Cypress Hills, while sitting in a patrol car outside a Brooklyn housing project.
Aievoli Funeral Home (located at 1275 65th Street in Bay Ridge) confirmed that the viewing will be held there on Sunday, January 3, between 1pm and 9pm and will be open to the public. The funeral will be on Sunday at 10am.
Over 25,000 police officers from around the country and Canada attended the funeral of Officer Ramos this weekend, and this choice of venue indicates a similar turnout for Officer Liu’s funeral. Initially there was delay in funeral arrangements for Officer Liu because relatives had to secure visas to fly in from China.
Liu, who immigrated from China 20 years ago, had been married just three months when he was killed, and was a seven-year veteran of the NYPD. Prior to becoming an officer, he volunteered as an auxiliary cop and studied finance at College of Staten Island. He is survived by his widow and his parents.
Before he died, Officer Liu was paying his family’s mortgage as well as his mother’s medical expenses. Now their financial situation is uncertain. Here’s more information on how you can help the Liu family.
