Friday Crime Blotter: Attempted Rape in Williamsburg, Robbery by a Gang of Teens & More

WILLIAMSBURG – Police are looking for a suspect after an attempted rape late at night in Williamsburg this week.

The attack took place at 2:15 am on Thursday, October 4, said police, in the area of Richardson and Kingsland Streets. Approaching a 27-year-old woman from behind, the attacker pushed her up against a wall, removed her underwear and tried to assault her, police said. When the victim resisted, the attacker knocked her to the ground and groped her.

The suspect fled in a dark sedan down Richardson, said police. The victim was treated at a nearby hospital.

BROWNSVILLE – Police have arrested Aaron Nathaniel, 14, for the shooting death of Daniel Oyebola in Brownsville late last month.

Nathaniel was arrested and charged with murder, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon, said police.

Oyebola was shot in the head while playing basketball at a Brownsville playground on Friday, September 22.

BROWNSVILLE – A man ripped the necklace from a straphanger at the Rockaway Avenue 3 station earlier this week—now, police are on the hunt.

The robbery took place around 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 2, police said. Approaching a 24-year-old woman from behind, the robber placed the woman in a chokehold, then snatched the necklace from her neck. He then pushed her to the ground and fled, disappearing into the nearby Marcus Garvey Village housing complex, police said.

EMS treated the victim at the scene for some bruising to her neck. Surveillance footage of the suspect can be seen below:


EAST WILLIAMSBURG – A group of eleven teens is wanted for a robbery near the Grand Street Campus High School that took place late last month.

Just after midnight on Sunday, September 23, the group approached a 17- and an 18-year-old outside 90 Waterbury Street, near the school. A number of young men from the group of eleven proceeded to assault the two teens, punching them in the head, then stealing about $200 worth of jewelry from them.

GOWANUS – Finally, police are looking for a suspect in a case of forcible touching at a subway station in Gowanus mid-September.

The incident took place on Friday, September 14, around 1:15 am at the 4th Avenue/9th Street station. The suspect grabbed a 30-year-old woman’s buttocks before fleeing the station to the street, police said.
