Friday Crime Blotter: Girl Gang Grabs Cell in Sunset Park, Chokehold Cracks Clavicle in Midwood & More

DOWNTOWN – A subway slashing at the Nevins Street station sent a man to the hospital after a verbal altercation turned violent.

On Wednesday, November 14, two men were arguing on a northbound 2 train around 11:30 pm. As the train pulled into the station, the suspect pulled out a box cutter and slashed the 37-year-old victim across the face, causing heavy blood loss, police said.

The suspect fled the scene, but responding EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, said police.

SUNSET PARK – Police are looking for a group of teen girls that snatched a cell phone and ran on Wednesday, November 14, in Sunset Park.

The incident took place around noon near the intersection of 59th Street and 8th Avenue, police said. One of the suspects tried to grab the victim’s phone and knocked it to the ground, where another suspect grabbed it and ran.

When the victim tried to give chase, the first suspect shoved her in the face. Police said two other girls served as lookouts.

MIDWOOD – A woman is wanted by police after robbing a woman in a Midwood apartment lobby last weekend.

Around 7:40 pm on Sunday, November 11, the suspect snuck up behind her victim as the woman carried two shopping bags across the lobby of a building near Avenue N and East 14 Street, police said. In the video, the suspect grabs the victim around the neck in a chokehold.

Police said the suspect grabbed the woman’s purse and fled, making off with $200. The victim suffered a fractured clavicle in the attack and was treated at Kings County Hospital.

MIDWOOD – A burglary near Kings Highway and Bedford Avenue in early October now has some surveillance video, so police are reaching out to the public to help track down their suspect.

The crime took place on Monday, October 1, around 9:00 pm, police said. The 27-year-old female victim returned home to find her laptop and $100 cash missing. A police investigation revealed that the suspect had entered the apartment earlier in the evening through an unsecured back window.

KENSINGTON – Finally, police are reaching back to September in an effort to track down a bicycle thief.

The suspect stole a bike from the garage of a house near Lawrence Avenue and McDonald Avenue around 2:00 pm on Friday, September 14, police said.
