Friday Crime Blotter: Another Racial Incident on a Bus, Robbery in Coney Island & More

DOWNTOWN – Police are looking for a suspect that attacked a man on a Downtown bus while shouting a racial remark earlier this week.

Just before 10:00 am on Monday, July 30, the 29-year old male victim was riding a B25 bus down Fulton Street when the suspect approached him and punched him in the face. According to police, the attacker “made an anti-white remark” in the process.

The suspect fled the bus at the Fulton and Bond stop, heading south down Bond Street. Surveillance video of the suspect can be seen below:

CYPRESS HILLS – Even out of office, the former President can’t seem to catch a break: someone robbed the Obama Tobacco and Grocery in Cypress Hills last weekend.

Just before 11:00 am on Sunday, July 29, the suspect entered the smoke shop at 194 Logan Street and pulled a knife, police said. He grabbed $40 cash and fled, with no injuries reported as a result of the robbery.

CONEY ISLAND – After two men put another in a chokehold and ran through his pockets in Coney Island, police are circulating a photo, trying to track the robbers down.

The robbery took place on Thursday, July 19, around 11:30 pm, at 2875 West 17 Street, just off of Mermaid Avenue, said police. Two suspects approached the 47-year old victim from behind and one of the two put him in a chokehold while the other stole $250 in cash from his pockets.

The suspects then threw the victim to the ground and fled down Mermaid Avenue, said police. The victim suffered bruising and a cut to his face from the incident and was treated and released from Coney Island Hospital, said police.

BED-STUY – Finally, police are looking for two men wanted in connection with an assault and robbery in Bed-Stuy earlier this month.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 6, around 4:00 am, said police. Two men followed a 62-year old man and attacked him outside 666 Flushing Avenue, near Whipple Street. Putting him in a headlock and dragging him to the ground, the men stole $20 from the victim’s wallet before fleeing north on Tompkins Avenue.
