Friday Crime Blotter: Attempted Rape in Williamsburg, A Pedestrian Run Down By A Bicyclist & More

WILLIAMSBURG – Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a wanted suspect after an attempted rape last weekend in Williamsburg.

The attack took place on Sunday, July 22, just after 4:00 am, said police. The suspect followed a woman home from work to her apartment in the area of Hewes Street and South 3rd. At the apartment, he forced his way in, pushing the 30-year old victim down on the couch and attempted to rape her, said police.

The victim was able to fight off her attacker, but he stole $300 from her wallet before fleeing east on South 4th towards Union. The victim was taken to Woodhull Hospital by EMS in stable condition.

WILLIAMSBURG – A man entered a house of worship in South Williamsburg in the early hours of a Thursday late last month to rob a charity box, but now, judgment is nigh—he was caught on camera.

The robbery occurred around 2:00 am on Thursday, June 21, when the suspect entered a religious building in the area near Kent Avenue and Hooper Street—where two Satmar congregations are located. According to police, the suspect entered and remained in the building for some time before stealing $400 from a collection box.

SUNSET PARK – After a bike and pedestrian collision in Sunset Park crosswalk that led to an injury, police are looking for the bicyclist that fled the scene.

The accident occurred just before 6:00 pm on Monday, June 4, in the crosswalk of 7th Avenue and 53rd Street, said police. The 39-year old male victim was walking across the street when he suspect, riding a bicycle, struck the man, knocking him to the ground, where he struck his head.

The suspect fled, but the victim suffered serious head trauma and was transported to NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn (former Lutheran Medical Center) in serious condition. A witness at the scene was able to snap a picture of the cyclist before he got away:
