FREE “Sugar” Screening at Avenue C Plaza On Friday

KENSINGTON — Kensington Stewards are kicking off their fall programming at the Avenue C Plaza (Corner of Avenue C and McDonald Avenue) with a FREE screening of “Sugar” on Friday, September 8 at 8:30 p.m.

“Sugar” tells the story of Miguel “Sugar” Santos, a 19-yr-old from the Dominican Republic whose great pitching arm earns him a tryout on a minor league baseball team in Iowa. Not the standard sports movie, “Sugar” highlights what it’s like to arrive in a new country where baseball is the only thing that’s not brand new.

“Sugar…give(s) American viewers a sense of how our country must seem to a newly arrived immigrant, without caricaturing or condescending to either guest or host, ” Slate said in a review.

Named one of top 10 films of 2009 by American Film Institute. Rated PG 13. In Spanish and English. Seats provided, but not popcorn. So bring your own.
