Free Movie Night Will Feature ‘Cool Runnings’ And Caribbean Short Films Tomorrow
CaribBEING, a local nonprofit organization that aims to “build community through the lens of Caribbean cinema, culture and art,” is teaming up with Councilman Jumaane Williams to offer a free screening of the movie “Cool Runnings,” as well as showings of Caribbean short films and a performance by the Soca Dance Workshop with Candace Thompson, on Wednesday, August 20 from 6-10pm.
Tomorrow’s event will be held at Paedergat Park (Foster Avenue between East 40th and Albany), and it will also feature free health screenings for anyone interested.
Among a number of short films that will be screened Wednesday will be “Missing Melodie,” by caribBEING associate and aspiring filmmaker Monique Campbell. The poignant film is about a young girl who migrates from Jamaica to the United States in an attempt to reconnect with her mother.
CaribBEING recently launched its new website, so check out the non-profit that runs the annual Flatbush Film Festival and is the brainchild of neighbor Shelley Vidia Worrell.
