The Department of Transportation and Citibike are teaming up to literally give away bike helmets from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday July 30 at the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park in Fort Greene Park.

“DOT will provide free Vision Zero bike helmets, fittings and distribution while supplies last,” says the event page.

People receiving helmets are required to learn who to properly fit the helmet. Attendees will also have a chance to learn about bike shares like New York City’s Citibike system.

Those over 18 need to sign a waiver for their helmets. For those under 18, a parent or guardian must attend and sign a waiver.

Vision Zero is an initiative of Mayor de Blasio which seek aims to reduce the number of preventable pedestrian fatalities.
