Hope you’re sufficiently pumped for the long weekend ahead! The next several days include some time with Tom Cruise (the young, hot kind), historical story time, and, of course, fireworks.

Myrtle Comedy
When: Thursday, July 3, 7:30pm
Where: Splitty (415 Myrtle Avenue between Clinton and Vanderbilt Avenues)
What: This weekly event hosted by

and Bob’s BurgersLarry Murphy features several standup comedy sets for an absolute pittance. To give you an idea of what’s in store, last week’s lineup included H. John Benjamin, Matt Koff, Jaqueline Novak, and Adam Newman

July 4 Food, Beer, Fireworks, and Dancing
When: Friday, July 4, 7-11pm
Where: Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm (at Flushing and Clinton Avenues)
What: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that this year’s July 4 fireworks are being set off over the East River–so the Brooklyn Navy Yard is a great place to watch them! Tickets for this event are a bit steep, but come with some perks–you won’t have to fight for a spot near the waterfront, you’ll get a heaping plate of brisket or pulled pork and yummy cornbread, you can legally drink beer, and there’s a patriotic dance party too. Reserve your spot ahead of time.

Storytime: Great Americans
When: Saturday, July 5, 11am
Where: Greenlight Bookstore (686 Fulton Street on the corner of South Portland Avenue)
What: Kids three to eight years old and their families are invited to this Independence Day weekend event, which is set to include readings about famous American inventors, musicians, folk heroes, and presidents–plus some holiday craft time.
How much: Free

Top Gun Screening
When: Sunday, July 6, 8pm
Where: Habana Outpost (757 Fulton Street on the corner of South Portland Avenue)
What: Goose, it’s time to buzz the tower! This Sunday is set to be 84 and sunny, so grab a cold one and enjoy some old school Tom Cruise as the sun goes down.
How much: Free
