FLICFest: Jin Ju Song-Begin and CatScratch Theatre
When: Friday, January 30 at 7:30pm
Where: Irondale Center at 85 South Oxford Street
What: Song-Begin at 7:30pm and CatScratch at 9pm. Continuation of the annual festival of feature-length independent choreography. Each evening includes two feature-length dance theater works followed by a performance cabaret in the balcony lounge.

BAMcafe Live: Emilio Teubal Ensemble

Where: BAMcafe at Peter Jay Sharp Building at 30 Lafayette Avenue
What: Led by renowned pianist/composer Emilio Teubal, this seven-piece outfit makes wondrously imaginative, dreamy jazz infused with Latin rhythms and folk influences from Teubal’s native Argentina. The cello, flugelhorn, and electric bass add dashes of unexpected color to beautifully melancholic, almost impressionistic melodies.

What: The Night Parade is a goodnight book filled with the whimsical wilderness of children’s imaginations just before they fall asleep. Join us for a reading with Lily, who will also lead a special craft where kids can make their own moon to take home!

Town Hall on Public Safety and Elder Abuse

Where: Willoughby Neighborhood Senior Center at the Walt Whitman Houses, at 105 North Portland Avenue
What: Councilmember Laurie A. Cumbo will host a Town Hall to address concerns regarding public safety and elder abuse following multiple incidents, including the sexual assault of a 75-year-old Brooklyn grandmother suffering from early signs of Alzheimer’s on January 1. Black Artstory Month ArtWalk
When: Sunday, February 1 from 4-6pm and throughout February
Where: Along Myrtle Avenue
What: Artwork by over 25 Brooklyn-based artists will be on view at 13+ small businesses along Myrtle Avenue between Carlton & Classon Avenues. The art at each location is curated by: Remi Onabanjo, MoCADA, SONYA, Freecandy, Jessica Lynne, Naimonu James, Rasu Jilani, Pratt Institute’s BAKO Tribe and Daonne Huff. Artwork can be viewed during the Artwalk (Feb 1, 4-6pm) and also during regular business hours throughout February.
